The Aurora Theatre in Saint Petersburg, seen via this superbly illuminated passageway, has components that resonate with Artwork Deco aesthetics, but it surely isn’t purely Artwork Deco. The daring neon lighting and symmetrical framing evoke the colourful, cinematic power usually related to Artwork Deco film palaces. Nonetheless, the structure of the Aurora Theatre itself leans extra towards early Twentieth-century Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts influences, typical of historic European cinemas.
That stated, the way in which this passage is captured—particularly with the neon glow and geometric framing—provides it a retro-futuristic, nearly Artwork Deco-inspired really feel. Or at the very least, that’s how I felt once I shot it.
