The mix of arches and excessive ceilings in designer Madeleine Wooden’s dwelling present a way of grandeur harking back to Italian palazzos, which is considerably ironic, as her home is just 2.7 metres extensive.

What the Paddington dwelling lacks in measurement it makes up for in traditional interval options and proximity to parks, playgrounds, cafes, and outlets.

Madeleine and her husband Angus moved into the home as a pair. By the point they have been pregnant with their second youngster, it was time to renovate to actually maximise the area and introduce extra persona.

Madeleine explains the design course; ‘The area we inherited didn’t have ornamental mouldings and cornices so it felt like we had a possibility to take a special strategy from the everyday Victorian-style terraces you’d see within the space.

‘The result is sort of a departure from this aesthetic, which we discover refreshing.’

With minimal structural work required, Madeleine may deal with the spatial planning, joinery, and finishes.

The intention for the kitchen was to maximise mild coming in from the north-facing courtyard by way of the choice of pale yellow shiny tiles, chrome steel drawers, and textured glass on the overhead cabinetry.

‘I gravitated in direction of traditional and enduring supplies like arabescato and verde marbles with terrazzo flooring, however wished to mix them in a manner that felt distinctive, says Madeleine. ‘I feel this composition makes the area really feel timeless, particularly alongside conventional tapware and classic lighting,’

The lavatory encompasses a daring inexperienced wall tile sample, complemented by extra pure stone, which ties in with the kitchen.

Jewel and earthy tones throughout the furnishings and artwork decide up colors in unique stained glass home windows and the brand new tiles.

The renovation by Madeleine has altogether invited a extra playful and distinctive aesthetic into the house, whereas assembly all the sensible necessities for a household of 4 and a canine, on only a 100-square-metre web site.

‘It’s so rewarding to expertise how pleasantly purposeful the design is and that each area is accounted for,’ she says, ‘right down to having the right cabinet to suit the vacuum!’
