Hello GPODers!

In the present day’s photographs come from Dianna Colnett, all the way in which from the small coastal city of Comox on the east coast of Vancouver, British Columbia. This backyard is positioned in Canadian hardiness Zone 8a. Dianna writes:

We’re very lucky to have a shocking set of crevice gardens positioned alongside the general public marina walkway. In each season, these south-facing gardens have some plant blooming or displaying attention-grabbing textures. For the previous couple of years, the realm across the Comox Valley has been receiving much less precipitation, leading to abnormally dry situations all through spring and summer time. The crevice gardens appear to thrive in these situations.

A tremendous mixture right here showcases a wide range of tulips (Tulipa spp. and cvs., Zones 3–8) and Hoop-Petticoat daffodils (Narcissus bulbocodium, Zones 3–8) with numerous creeping floor covers. Dianna says, The rocks are positioned to supply good drainage and permit for deep roots. The crops listed below are a combination of bulbs, perennials, and floor covers.

The sheer number of plantings in these backyard beds is astounding.

Sedums and cacti bloom alongside Lewisia cotyledon (Siskiyou Lewisia, Zones 3–8), which is native to Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The silver-green sedum to the best of the rosemary is broadleaf stonecrop (Sedum spathulifolium, Zones 5–9), one other native plant in western North America.

A unique shade variation of Lewisia cotyledon with a blue-flowered gentian (Gentiana sp. and cvs., Zones 4–7 ) behind, and extra broadleaf stonecrop to the left

This tulip is presumably eyed tulip or sun-eyed tulip (Tulipa agenensis, Zones 3–8) with a sedum under and partridge feather (Tanacetum densum, Zones 4–9) to the left.

The above photograph was taken final 12 months, exhibiting a distinct stage of development and blooms in comparison with 2026 (under).

A shot within the different route exhibits how shut this backyard is to the water, and hints on the numerous parts these crops should stand up to—really a hardy backyard!

An in depth-up of what’s more than likely Tower of Jewels (Echium wildpretii, Zones 9–11)

Thanks for sharing this superior backyard with us, Dianna. How pretty to discover a inexperienced little bit of paradise out among the many docks, and really inspiring to see simply what number of several types of crops will work in a crevice backyard.
