Twenty winners have been named within the 2025 Nationwide Belief (NSW) Heritage Awards in recognition of their excellence within the conservation of Aboriginal, constructed, pure and cultural heritage throughout the state.
Awards have been introduced in ten classes, together with the President’s Prize, the Judges’ Alternative Award, the inaugural Individuals’s Alternative Award and 4 prizes for people. Reflecting on this 12 months’s celebrated initiatives, CEO of the Nationwide Belief (NSW) Debbie Mills commented, “The geographical unfold of winners may be very spectacular – from Port Macquarie to Bega, Sydney to Damaged Hill.”
Heritage Council of NSW chair Sally Barnes added, “I’m impressed by the sheer range of initiatives. It’s fantastic to have a good time the position of heritage in creating lovely and much-loved locations in our trendy world.”
The 2025 jury comprised Matthew Devine (chair), Ann Toy, Barrina South, David Burdon, Caitlin Allen, Libby Gallagher, Kathryn Pitkin, Peter John Cantrill and Sophie Canaris. They awarded the Judges’ Alternative Award to the Outdated Bega Hospital revival, which was entered by a crew together with Design 5 Architects. The venture concerned the in depth restore and rebuild of an 1888 constructing after hearth ravaged the positioning in 2004. The jury described the works as “delicate, elegantly resolved and a venture that units the usual for heritage conservation.”
The Structure class was gained by Neeson Murcutt Neille for the Former Workmen’s Dwellings Decrease Fort Avenue, an adaptive re-use of a row of former social housing buildings in The Rocks conservation precinct.
Minister for Heritage Penny Sharpe applauded the winners for his or her excellent efforts in safeguarding and selling NSW’s heritage, noting that “these initiatives play a vital position in guaranteeing our distinctive locations and tales are celebrated and conserved for future generations.”
