5 Australian initiatives have been shortlisted in the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) Worldwide Awards for Excellence 2026.

Fifty-two initiatives from 18 nations have been shortlisted for the awards program, which recognises designs that tackle world challenges, together with local weather change, social fairness and concrete progress.

Awards group chair Neil Gillespie mentioned this system highlights various and artistic design options to world challenges. “These initiatives present how architects can reply to complicated social, cultural and environmental challenges, from revitalising communities and preserving heritage to pioneering sustainable and technologically modern options. They reveal the facility of structure to attach individuals, strengthen identification, and create inclusive, resilient locations for future generations.”

Angelo Candalepas and Associates’ initiatives featured twice within the shortlist. Church of the Residing God, a mixed-use constructing in Sydney comprising a corridor for providers, neighborhood exercise areas and disaster lodging, was shortlisted within the Group class, whereas The Porter Home Lodge, a restored heritage resort with a cantilevered residential tower above, appeared on the Combined-Use shortlist.

Additionally shortlisted within the Home class is Gold Creek by Steendijk and Glenn Murcutt, a modest 100-square-metre pavilion home in Brisbane that’s tucked into its hillside web site. The house options screened openings for pure air flow and ember-resistant Corten roofs.
