For a flowery addition to your container herb backyard, plant some calendula. Calendula flowers carry a wave of sunshine to my winter backyard with their massive yellow/orange flowers, and the neighbourhood pollinators completely love them.
Calendula flowers will also be cultivated and used medicinally. The flowers will be dried to make a home made salve recognized for therapeutic pores and skin and soothing eczema, or used to make a relaxing, anti-inflammatory tea.
Being edible, the fragile petals will also be used so as to add a vibrant garnish to salads and dessert.
For container-friendly calendulas, search for dwarf, compact varieties like ‘Pink Shock’, which have distinctive, apricot-pink petals. These varieties develop as much as 60cm tall within the floor however keep smaller in containers.
And lastly, in fact, there’s coriander and parsley – two extremely popular herbs that thrive within the cooler climate.
