Alright, y’all. September is right here. The lengthy vacation weekend is over. And I spent a calming weekend gearing up for this ultimate push between now and the top of the 12 months as a result of I actually need to get the lobby and bed room completed earlier than we ring in a brand new 12 months.

However I’ve to confess that I’ve form of misplaced steam, and it’s over a silly however irritating and recurring situation. I had hoped to be completed with sanding the drywall within the lobby by now. Heck, I had hoped to be completed putting in the trim by now. However there’s one factor that has hindered my progress, and it’s actually the dumbest situation ever. I can’t get the plastic between the closet and the lobby to remain up.

I do know. It sounds silly, proper? However I’ll put the plastic up, then begin working (sanding) and perhaps have an hour or so to work earlier than I flip round and see this…

At this level, I’ve misplaced depend of what number of instances I’ve retaped that plastic. I’ve tried totally different painters tapes, and none of them stick longer than an hour. I don’t know if it is because every thing in that closet is painted with Sherwin Williams paint, and it has some form of non-stick protecting high quality to it that makes it straightforward to scrub (which, after all, is sweet in a paint) but additionally implies that tape received’t keep on with it. However this has been so extremely irritating that I lastly simply gave up, determined to benefit from the lengthy vacation weekend and never do any work, after which sort out it once more right now.

Painters tape simply received’t work. And it’s not simply the ceiling that it received’t keep on with. It received’t keep on the perimeters which can be taped to the cupboards, both. My solely possibility appears to be masking tape, however oh my goodness, I hate utilizing masking tape on painted surfaces. If I’m going to take down that plastic that has been taped up there with masking tape, and it peels off the paint, I’ll cry. That may imply having to return and do sanding and repainting within the completed closet, and I don’t need to go backwards.

Anyway, I do know it sounds silly, however that one situation brought about me to utterly lose steam on this lobby. I can’t end the partitions with out doing much more sanding. And I can’t sand with the plastic down between the closet and lobby. And whereas I had the excuse of a protracted vacation weekend to place that on the again burner over the previous couple of days, that excuse has run out right now. I’ll put the plastic again up (for concerning the tenth time) right now, and I suppose I’ll use masking tape and hope for the most effective.

I did lastly determine to skip the sanding for now and no less than get some trim up, although. I wanted to see some progress in that path. So I bought the doorways trimmed out and the baseboards minimize and hooked up. After which I bought the bottom cap trim minimize, but it surely’s not hooked up but.

In fact, I had hoped to get the partitions all sanded and primed earlier than any trim went up, however that plastic situation prevented me from doing this within the appropriate order. That is what it does after a few hours each single time.

And since I used to be so annoyed, my thoughts wasn’t actually on what I used to be doing, and I minimize the facet trim for this door an inch too quick. I went forward and put it up, and I’ll simply connect the little piece to the underside, use wooden filler, sand, and paint. Nobody will discover.

And I did determine to go forward and wrap the trim round onto the jambs of the closet doorway. I’ll even be wrapping the grasscloth wallpaper onto the jambs as effectively. It’s the one approach that actually made sense in my thoughts if I need to maintain that doorway tall and open (which I do) which prevents me from trimming out this doorway like the opposite doorways.

In order that’s it. No less than there’s somewhat little bit of progress. There would have been a lot extra if that plastic had cooperated. This morning, I’ll get the masking tape out and see if that works. If not, I actually don’t know what different choices I’ve. If in case you have any sensible concepts that I’m overlooking, please share!
