Expressions of curiosity at the moment are open for the milestone tenth version of Melbourne Design Week, Australia’s largest annual design competition, set to return from 14–24 Might 2026 with a statewide program celebrating the ability of design.
Introduced by the NGV, the competition has grown considerably since its launch in 2017, increasing from fewer than 100 occasions in its first 12 months to greater than 450 in 2025, with over 100,000 attendees.
Designers, studios, makers and collectives at the moment are invited to suggest daring and authentic concepts for talks, exhibitions, installations, workshops and extra. Submissions are open till 13 November 2025. The 2026 program will once more prolong past Melbourne, activating venues throughout Victoria and together with the Melbourne Artwork E-book Truthful, for which expressions of curiosity shut on 1 December 2025.
Tony Ellwood AM, director of the NGV, mentioned: “Since 2017, Melbourne Design Week has grown in power and ambition – due largely to the limitless creativeness of our native design group. In 2026, we invite designers, architects, makers and collectives to assist us form the milestone tenth version of the competition and to share their groundbreaking achievements with our ever-growing viewers.”
