Each time an Alistair Knox-designed residence hits the market, it presents a particular alternative to personal a slice of Australian architectural historical past.

This Rosanna residence is not any exception. Designed in 1968, the home captures Knox’s imaginative and prescient of ‘bringing the constructing and the pure setting collectively,’ explains the seller Nicholas Abbey.

Impressed by the structure of Frank Lloyd Wright and Robin Boyd — each nice influences on Knox — the house represents a pivotal period in Australian design, the place sustainability, craftsmanship, and connection to panorama had been on the forefront.

Knox, a founding member of the Australian Institute of Panorama Architects, was a pioneer of environmental design. This residence embodies that ethos in each element — from the tactile supplies to its integration with the encompassing panorama.

The Oregon beams and cedar panelling kind a steady dialogue between indoors and out, extending by way of verandahs that body views of the native backyard designed by Gordon Ford (an everyday function in Open Gardens Victoria excursions).

True to Knox’s environmental rules, the house is constructed largely from recycled supplies. The Hawthorn bricks — reclaimed and stuffed with character — anchor the construction, whereas the flooring are created from slate initially dropped at Australia as ship ballast.

The unique house owners drew inspiration from Elizabeth Farm — the historic Parramatta residence of Elizabeth and John Macarthur — referencing its vast verandas and restrained magnificence. These design decisions are echoed within the residence, together with refined influences of Japanese mid-century modernism that knowledgeable a lot of Knox’s later work.

With three bedrooms, a carport and parking bay, and a simple commute to the town, the house is as sensible as it’s poetic.

Now available on the market for the primary time, it stands for example of Knox’s legacy — a house that balances structure, nature, and craftsmanship.

46 Victoria Ave, Rosanna VIC is listed with Nick Smith and Mark Verrocchi from Nelson Alexander. Expressions of curiosity shut Tuesday November 25, 4pm AEST.
