Tracing the arc of a design career: First and Last speaker series lands in Perth

The First and Final speaker sequence arrives in Perth this February, inviting audiences to listen to first-hand how inventive practices and careers evolve over time — from early, formative initiatives to latest milestone work. The Perth version of the sequence will function candid reflections from two revered Australian designers, providing insights into how their design philosophies have developed over many years and what has remained fixed.

Happening at King Residing’s Osborne Park showroom in Perth on February 19, the occasion will function displays by Hamish Guthrie, founding director of Melbourne-based studio Hecker Guthrie, and Katherine Ashe, co-director of Vittino Ashe. By means of private storytelling and challenge reflections, attendees will achieve a uncommon glimpse into the evolution of inventive observe and the teachings discovered alongside the best way.

Guthrie will look again to George Avenue Residence, one of many first homes he accomplished after leaving a big observe. In distinction, he’ll share insights from his latest work on Commonplace X, a 125-room lodge in Melbourne’s Fitzroy — a challenge that displays each an evolution in scale and ambition, in addition to a deep engagement with place and tradition.

Ashe will recount the story of MmB — a neighbour’s home that seeded an enduring friendship and helped form the beginnings of her observe. First and Final is a part of the Design Speaks program, presenting conversations with main designers that discover observe, context and inventive longevity.
