Zooco Estudio designs "atypical" art deco-informed interior in Santander

Artwork deco design motifs knowledgeable the inside of Atypique, an artisan workshop and specialty espresso store within the Spanish port of Santander by native observe Zooco Estudio.

Atypique is positioned on the bottom flooring of the Siboney constructing, a Thirties artwork deco residential block designed by architect José Enrique Marrero Regalado.

“From the preliminary idea, the target was clear: to duplicate the atypical character of the Siboney constructing,” Zooco Estudio informed Dezeen.

“This robust architectural language grew to become a useful resource that we determined to include into the inside, producing continuity between the identification of the constructing and its new business use.”

Spatially, Atypique is organised into what may be understood as three visible planes, reinterpreting the Siboney constructing’s modular logic and horizontal banding.

“We transferred this technique to the inside, organising the programme into useful strips,” the studio defined.

The bar and seating space occupy the decrease strip, mirrors and higher work surfaces kind the center band and lighting defines the higher stage.

“We basically turned the constructing inside out,” Zooco Estudio mentioned.

Curved options – reminiscent of furnishings, lighting and wall niches – mediate the transitions between these planes, echoing the facade’s shift from linear to rounded kinds.
