2025 Building People Awards | Architecture Now

Greater than 500 building professionals attended the 2025 Constructing Folks Awards, supported by GIB, on 8 August at Tākina in Wellington. The occasion, run by the Constructing Institute Aotearoa for over 30 years, contains awards for management, innovation, and teamwork within the building sector.

The Institute say the awards concentrate on the human abilities, relationships, and problem-solving concerned in delivering tasks, relatively than the tasks themselves.

Twenty-six recipients have been named throughout ten classes. The organisers word that this 12 months launched two firsts:

The brand new Web site Supervisor of the 12 months Award, which the Institute says recognises leaders who guarantee tasks are protected, environment friendly, and linked to the neighborhood. The inaugural recipient, Lachlan Grant (Hawkins, Wellington), was described by the judging panel as combining revolutionary onsite expertise with a robust concentrate on workforce wellbeing and neighborhood engagement.

The youngest-ever GIB Supreme Award winner, 30-year-old Lian Versteeg. The Hubexo Award for Collaboration / Kotahitanga was gained by the Allevia Hospital Epsom Redevelopment workforce, who delivered a technically advanced facility, that includes digital working rooms and hybrid theatres, on time and inside finances. The Jury famous “They expertly managed building alongside dwell surgical environments, adhering to strict noise and vibration limits amid Covid-19 challenges. Their early contractor involvement and values-driven collaboration enabled speedy adaptation to late-stage design modifications”. As one referee stated, “This was essentially the most distinctive mission workforce I’ve seen. They have been constantly solution-focused, and fixed communication was the important thing – It was phenomenal.”

Constructing Institute CEO Pamela Bell stated: “These Awards are recognising and rewarding the excellence of the folks behind the tasks, whereas different trade Awards concentrate on the mission, the Constructing Folks Awards are concerning the human beings that create our constructed setting. Collectively, we’ve honoured these exceptional individuals who have led by instance, impressed their groups, and contributed to a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable trade.”

The Resene Subsequent Gen Awards, additionally offered on the evening, invited college students to suggest concepts to vary elements of the development trade. The Resene Subsequent Gen Supreme Winner title went to College of Canterbury PhD scholar Shanta Persad for her photo voltaic calculator device to optimise renewable power use in city environments. Judges described her as “a frontrunner shaping the way forward for our constructed setting.”
