The principle entrance to the Jama Masjid, also referred to as the Siddi Sayyed Mosque, was inbuilt 1423 by Sultan Ahmed Shah I, the founding father of town of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The mosque is constructed within the native Gujarati variation of the Indo Islamic type of structure, characterised by a largely trabeate structural system and extremely ornate floor ornament.
