I lately watched a Zoom presentation from an area gardener and writer who stated the best way to develop roses within the Pacific Northwest was to solely select shrub roses and carpet roses. Don’t even attempt to develop old style, moss roses, David Austins, hybrid teas, and so forth. Effectively, that is simply mistaken. Our local weather is similar to the UK, they usually develop fantastic roses.

Fortunately, I met Andrea Lantin, who lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and has cracked the code for rising sturdy and wholesome roses in our area. She has over 300 roses on her property of all species, however she didn’t have this outrageous success from the beginning. After some preliminary failures, Andrea related with rose gardeners within the UK and has cultivated a time-tested methodology for rising superb roses that doesn’t require countless hours of upkeep.

On this video, I get a late-season take a look at her backyard as roses proceed to bloom. Andrea explains the rose-care routine that has helped her create her flourishing area, in addition to the highest varieties she recommends to gardeners simply getting began with rising roses within the Pacific Northwest.
