Two properties tucked into Melbourne’s laneways will probably be open to the general public as a part of Open Home Melbourne on Sunday 26 July.
Amongst them is the 5×4 Hayes Lane Mission by Felicetti and GHD. Occupying a five-by-four-metre website in East Melbourne, the three-level home and its roof backyard discover the chances of constructing on an exceptionally constrained inner-city lot. Guided by One Planet Residing ideas, the venture was conceived to research extra sustainable methods of residing in dense city environments whereas contributing to broader discussions round city densification and low-impact building.
In Carlton North, Stables Home by Rob Kennon Architects transforms a former hay retailer and undercroft into a up to date house, retaining the constructing’s strong shell whereas inserting a brand new inside layer for residing. The unique perimeter kind and openings stay legible, preserving the constructing’s relationship to the pedestrian laneway. A courtyard carved into the plan strengthens the connection to the lane, whereas a sunken kitchen and eating area responds to the constructing’s low present ceilings, creating surprising quantity.
