Nielsen, sought a nature retreat from their weekday lives in Frederiksberg. Each have been introduced up near nature and hoped to supply an identical expertise to their four-year-old son, Helmut. “After we discovered our little spot in Vollerup, we determined to attempt to construct a low-impact cabin along with my childhood buddy, Thomas [Høyer],” says Christoffer. On the time, Høyer was working as an architect at Lundgaard & Tranberg. He determined to begin his personal follow and took on the construct as the primary mission.

Harmoni Home was constructed from the bottom up. “We wished to construct a low-impact cabin the place we thought of the carbon footprint of the whole mission,” Christoffer explains. “When it comes to the environmental impression, we approached it from two views: the development of the home and the way the home could be used.” For the construct, they sourced 95 % of the supplies from inside Denmark—from wooden to home windows—all from renewable assets. The remaining development supplies got here from neighboring Sweden. Concrete was probably the most carbon-intense useful resource utilized so relatively than a stable concrete basis, they opted to position the home on concrete piers. In addition they selected to situate the home the place just one tree would must be eliminated. “That wasn’t simple, as there are a whole lot of timber on the market,” Christoffer notes.

Constructing a home with him was an excellent privilege—he taught us a lot alongside the best way.” The group accomplished the home in 2022, after which the couple furnished the inside primarily with classic and pre-loved items from Scandinavian and European designers.
