Hello GPOD!

Right this moment we’re popping all the way down to the Southern Hemisphere and revisiting Lynne Leslie’s backyard in Wellington, New Zealand (try her earlier submissions: Lynne’s Windy Backyard in New Zealand and Late Spring in Lynne’s Backyard). Getting updates from Lynne is a two-fold deal with. First, Lynne grows some wonderful vegetation with plenty of fabulous flowers that might delight regardless of her locale. Second, whereas us gardeners within the Northern Hemisphere are coping with warmth waves within the peak of summer time, New Zealand is experiencing their winter season. We get to see what attention-grabbing, and a few fully overseas, vegetation are rising and blooming on the alternative finish of the world.

Even with temperatures hovering round 14 levels the weeds simply carry on rising! Gardening means a lot to me. As I potter round close to the footpath individuals cease for a chat and I often cross on cuttings to encourage others – sharing vegetation provides me a lot pleasure.

Hellebores are available such selection now with new ones showing in retailers yearly. I really like the standard ones, however newer varieties can have such attention-grabbing foliage. On the finish of the season I lower all foliage and spent flowers off as they unfold their seeds with abandon, and aphids like to make the vegetation their new house.

Pyrostegia venusta vineOne other winter favorite is flame vine (Pyrostegia venusta, Zones 9–11). It grows so quickly that I need to lower it again onerous after flowering. Nice for choosing and such a vivid gentle within the backyard.

yellow Jasminum Mesnyi flowerPrimrose jasmine (Jasminum mesnyi, Zones 8–11) brings again reminiscences of my Nana, an awesome gardener. Picked for the vase when buds first seem, the flowers then emerge progressively brightening up the home.

Peruvian lily in the gardenAlstroemeria are an actual stalwart – simple to develop and flower for thus lengthy. To take away the previous stems I give them a very good onerous tug which inspires recent flowering. Leaves of newer varieties will be very engaging, however older varieties can unfold all over the place right here.

giulio nuccio camelliasThe primary of my camellias to flower – Guilio Nuccio (Camellia japonica ‘Guilio Nuccio’ , Zones 7–9). I really like the stamens and so do the bees.

iris xiphiumSpanish iris (Iris xiphium, Zones 6–9) is a surprise lined in water droplets.

close up of luculia flowerSomething with a fragrance I simply love – luculia (the pink flower pictured right here), daphne, jonquils, cyclamen, osmanthus and many others. Roses have been pruned and sprayed with oil, so now I await the following thrilling season with bulbs, annuals, perennials. Gardening is such a beautiful passion.

Thanks for sharing your unimaginable backyard with us once more, Lynne! Whereas there may be plenty of range in local weather and situations throughout North America, it’s an additional particular deal with to see gardens from afar.
