Astet Studio references Tokyo isakayas at Mitsu restaurant in London

Up to date Shoji screens and hanging materials have been used to evoke Tokyo izakayas on the Mitsu Japanese restaurant in London.

The lately opened restaurant in Shoreditch, east London, was designed by Barcelona-based Astet Studio to replicate Japan’s avenue tradition and concrete nightlife.

Specifically, the studio wished to create the texture of an izakaya – a sort of casual Japanese bar.

“Our intention was for the restaurant to be perceived as an izakaya tavern that has developed through the years: a lived-in and heat house, but nonetheless with a vibrant vitality,” Astet Studio co-founder Ala Zreigat instructed Dezeen.
