Neeraj Bhatia and Jess Myers among the 2026–27 Rome Prize winners

The American Academy in Rome (AAR) introduced the recipients of the 2026–27 Rome Prize and Italian Fellows Program. The 31 people chosen for the cohort, stood out from a pool of 958 candidates, with an acceptance charge of simply 3.03 %.

In September, the architects, designers, preservationists, artists, and students chosen will take their analysis and concepts to the AAR’s historic Roman compound designed by McKim, Meade, and White for intervals starting from 5 to 10 months.

The Rome Prize yearly acknowledges achieved artists and people engaged in scholarly endeavors throughout 13 arts- and humanity-centered disciplines, together with music, structure, panorama structure, historic preservation, literature, and historical past.

Rome Prize structure winners for this cycle are Neeraj Bhatia, principal of The Open Workshop; and Jess Myers, an assistant Professor on the Syracuse College College of Structure. Within the Rome Prize’s Historic Preservation and Conservation class, two people have been awarded: Erica Avrami, a professor at Columbia GSAAP; and Ariel O’Connor, a conservator on the Smithsonian Nationwide Museum of Asian Artwork.

Caroline Lavoie of Utah State College and panorama designer Daví Parente Schoen of CMG Panorama Structure and founding father of Out Of Workplace (design/analysis/craft) have been acknowledged within the area of panorama structure.

As in previous years, the jury that weighed in on this yr’s cohort used their experience as historians, curators, artists, musicians to pick the Rome Prize recipients. Within the structure and panorama structure self-discipline the jury was chaired by Dorothée Imbert of the Knowlton College at Ohio State College. Imbert was joined by Leena Cho; Chris Cornelius; Christopher Hawthorne; Rashida Ng; and Ilaria Puri Purini, director of the AAR.
