My complete purpose for the week was to get all the smaller initiatives performed on the entrance porch in order that I may end up this week (and I nonetheless have two extra days) with staining the wooden on the porch as a result of as soon as I get the primary coat of pine tar on the porch, it would take 72 hours to dry. So all of those different initiatives that require me to stroll on the entrance porch must be completed first. I believe I’m on monitor to get it performed within the subsequent couple of days. I’m going to attempt my hardest!

I did get just a little behind yesterday as a result of I made a decision to do yet one more coat of paint on the columns, the white elements of the railings, and the newel posts. After I completed that, I made a decision to put in the brand new porch lights. Putting in the lights was simple half. Accessing the lights was a problem.

For some cause that I can’t work out, I can’t get the door to my workshop open. And naturally, the brand new lights have been being saved within the workshop. After spending a ridiculous period of time making an attempt to get the door open, I observed that one of many home windows was cracked open just a bit bit. So I bought my ladder, opened the window, and peeked inside to see the place the lights have been. They occurred to be close to the window, so with the assistance of a 6-inch paint curler (sans curler cowl), I used to be capable of attain them, hook the lid of the field on the paint curler, drag them nearer to the window, open the lid of the field, and hook the highest a part of every gentle onto the top of the paint curler and elevate it by the window. It’s at all times so irritating when silly issues eat up my time (I’m positive you may relate), and what a ridiculous fluke this was! What ought to have taken me 5 minutes (opening the door, grabbing the brand new lights, and heading to the entrance porch) ended up taking about 40 minutes of my time simply to get my new lights out of the workshop. I may have made a visit to Lowe’s and acquired new lights in that period of time! 😀

Anyway, the unhealthy information is that I do not know why my workshop door gained’t open, so it’s now holding plenty of my instruments hostage, and I now have a brand new downside to unravel. The excellent news is that I did rescue my new lights and I used to be capable of set up them yesterday.

The brand new lights are those that I initially purchased for the workshop, however they ended up being too massive. Somewhat than returning them, I held onto them and determined to swap them out for the smaller lights that have been on the entrance porch. Right here’s a comparability of the 2, with the brand new gentle on the left and the unique entrance porch gentle on the best.

I actually love this bigger dimension for our entrance porch. And I just like the design of those significantly better anyway. The smaller lights shall be excellent for the workshop, so I boxed these up and I’ll set up these on the workshop later.

And naturally, my little buddy Tiger was retaining me firm all day yesterday.

So I bought two initiatives checked off of my checklist yesterday — the columns (together with the railings and newel posts) and the brand new lights.

I used to be actually hoping to get the fascia boards fully completed as properly. You’ll be blissful to know that I did a minimum of get the entrance fascia board on, so these are prepared for caulk and paint.

However I’m having a heck of a time getting this aspect board fully off. I did get most of it off, however that final bit gave me issues.

I assumed the largest problem could be to get all of those screws on the ends of the porch boards out. Each certainly one of these was screwed into the sting of the fascia board. The screw holes have been all coated with exterior wooden filler which dried about at laborious as concrete. So digging that out took plenty of time and persistence. As soon as these have been out, I anticipated the fascia board to return off simply.

Sadly, that didn’t occur. I’m telling you, once I construct one thing, I don’t anticipate it to ever come aside. 😀 So I’ll must work on this final bit in the present day in order that I can get the remainder of the brand new fascia boards on.

I used to be actually outdoors final night time till 9:00, working by the sunshine of my cellphone, making an attempt to get this off. However I lastly gave up and determined I simply wanted to name it an evening.

I additionally nonetheless have to do some paint touchups across the ceiling — touchups that ought to have been performed again once I painted the ceiling however I by no means bought round to them.

However I’m making progress on these little initiatives. I virtually have all of them completed, which implies that I’ll have the ability to get all of this cleaned up very quickly and eventually get the porch boards stained with the pine tar.

It’s coming alongside! I can’t wait to get this completed and present you the ultimate porch!
