A Love Letter to the Misunderstood Flower

“Chrysanthemums are lengthy overdue for a revival,” says backyard author Naomi Slade, the writer of the brand new ebook Chrysanthemums: Lovely Varieties for House and Backyard, which is out within the U.S. now and launching within the U.Ok on September 12. “They’ve bought a foul fame and are sometimes seen as being workhorse flowers that aren’t very particular,” she says. “In reality, they’re extremely particular and actually fascinating.”

Slade says she was excited to discover the PIP series of commercially-grown chrysanthemums, including ‘PIP Salmon, above. “Its creamy apricot blooms have a deeper caramel stripe,” Slade writes, “The lightly brushed streaks add detail without being fussy, and impart a gentle texture that helps the flower blend with other components of a bouquet.”

Slade attributes the rising enthusiasm for chrysanthemums partially to the latest recognition of dahlias. “Chrysanthemums have all the nice qualities that dahlias have,” Slade enthuses. “They decide fantastically, they {photograph} effectively, they’re great for arranging. And along with flowers for slicing, there’s an entire different group of chrysanthemums, that are additionally hardy backyard crops. So, it’s like dahlias plus.”
