Hello architects 👋
I posted this on r/homebuilding searching for suggestions to share with my architect to make this much less fugly, however principally they simply roasted it…and really helpful I share it right here!
I’m questioning if this design is salvageable or if we have to completely scrap it and begin over with a distinct architect. The architect who designed it is a household buddy (and doing the work at a steep low cost), so it’s type of a sticky scenario and could be very tough to stroll away…so I’m actually hoping to give you substantive suggestions for him that he can use to revise the design. Me simply saying “oh no not this” isn’t going to chop it. I did share an entire PowerPoint with detailed feedback on a number of totally different facades and I feel he didn’t learn it, simply skimmed the pictures.
Totally on the within I’m okay with it – just a few adjustments I’d make, however the format hits our must-haves and we don’t have a lot flexibility anyway. Sharing the inside plans anyway if it’s useful (sorry it’s not in English).
However the exterior…oh boy…I needed one thing basic, conventional, and chic with a give attention to pure supplies, and as an alternative obtained this beast. It feels to me too masculine, heavy, brutal, rectangular, city, industrial…
I do wish to make clear that our plot (inherited land) is TINY (300 m2). And we’re utilizing the utmost allowable footprint in accordance with metropolis laws. It’s additionally on a steep hill, so the storage is road stage and goes right into a basement, and the gate on the precise has stairs that result in the entrance door. Principally each home on the road has the same arrange.
Additionally, maybe clearly, this isn’t in America. We’re in a mid-sized European-ish metropolis, with very totally different architectural heritage. A part of why I’m struggling is that I’m extra used to seeing American properties and that is SO removed from that.
All suggestions is welcome! I’m hoping to get ChatGPT to edit some totally different facades to see what seems to be good to my eye, after which share with the architect.
Thanks prematurely, good architecturally minded folks 😍
