Where does minimalist design in Japanese architecture come from?

I've all the time been struck by how properly conventional and modern Japanese structure adapts to the aesthetics and philosophy of minimalism. It appears as if {the japanese} have internalized this design and aesthetic culturally and mentally.

The place do minimalist precepts in Japanese design and structure originate? Is it attributable to Zen Buddhism or one thing else I can't understand or perceive? In that case, what’s the cause?
